Autograph letter : [Paris], to Madame de Godeville, 1777 May 24.

Saying that it is his lot to be wrong and to ask her pardon; explaining that he has not been able to read her letters because he has not had time to himself; promising to throw himself at her feet tonight if he can find the time; noting that he is going to Versailles tomorrow; stressing that he is not lying and that his wrongs against her bear no relation to his feelings for her.
